In todays gang culture, the use of clothing to help identify involvement is becoming popular. Clothing, particularly athletic gear, according to the style, color, logo, and the manner it is worn, might indicate that the individual, male or female, is a gang member. Some of today's youth have adopted the "gangsta" look and have no connection to gangs, which is why proper training in gang identification is important.

Because youth are seen in groups on the streets, schools, and malls, all wearing the same types of clothing and color does not mean they are gang members!!

Wearing particular types of clothing, jewelry and other items is not the only indicator of gang affiliation, it is merely one of many factors to be considered when identifying a gang member.
